Uruguay 1996/2013
 Chapter Two
I arrived in Montevideo in late October 1996.  The days were not still warm and having just stayed in Buenos Aires, so huge and chaotic, the small Montevideo appeared to me immediately different.
The first impression I had was to be back in time; it reminded me to certain little Italian seaside towns , in the post  World War II.
People look at me like the images of 1950s family, even clothing was similar,  the cars were those we could only see in the museums, the sidewalks were a bit shabby, the building had a very special architecture revealing  the work of many Italian emigrants, even smells were from another part of the world.
A particular city with mysterious and cordial  atmospheres that I had met in the novels of the great South American writers, but also some echoes of all the dictatorships that had crossed the continent and even the premonition of other future  crisis like the one in Argentina, few years later, that strongly hit also the county

I photographed only in black and white because it seemed the most natural choice, he could give me the image of the city as I felt I ...
A city that I keep in my heart.
